The renovation of Bulgari's flagship store in Kuala Lumpur is the first storefront in a series of MVRDV facade designs for the Italian brand. The tone has been set, the marble-veined facade reflects the luxury brand's heritage spotless.

Gracious facade

The original store in Rome with its characteristic marble façade, inspired MVRDV for their design - reinvented and reinterpreted with material experiments. The concrete and resin facade is permeated by gold light, creating the illusion of real marble. During the day it looks impressive but organic, while it achieves a more dramatic effect at night.

Role ABT

Together with the Technical University of Delft and Tensoforma, ABT contributed to the research-process which led to this innovative result. Glass Reinforced Concrete was cut into a shredded pattern and the space between the concrete parts is filled with resin, illuminated with amber-colored LED lights. A sheet of stainless steel with panel joints - hidden into the vein pattern - functions as a base for the resin.
