Integral engineering; that's what I stand for in my role as building engineer. My broad background and curiosity for other disciplines enable me to translate my colleagues' specific knowledge into smart, integrated solutions (see page 8 in ABT Magazine). During projects, I make sure that these solutions really add value to all parties involved. Besides the practical benefits, I believe that this approach is indispensable in responding to the major challenges the building industry is facing.

One of the biggest challenges is making the built environment energy neutral in a future-proof manner. To me, integral engineering does not only mean interdisciplinary collaboration, but is also about looking outside the building boundaries and being aware of both technological and social developments. For example; is it necessary to be energy neutral on a building scale while the government is heavily investing in offshore wind energy? And how do we deal with the phasing out of natural gas in a smart way?

Because of its' knowledge and expertise in various disciplines, ABT is the ideal learning school for me to further develop myself as an integral engineer. I am looking forward to make new and existing buildings future-proof together with my colleagues, where I’m particularly interested in the application of energy storage systems.

During my master Building Technology at TU Delft, I started an internship in 2015 at the integral project Cinemec Nijmegen. After this internship, I graduated at ABT on the topic "Integration of thermal energy storage in refurbishment projects", with Jaap Wiedenhoff as one of my mentors. During my graduation, I worked on several exciting projects including the facade of the Collection Building Boijmans van Beuningen. Because of our mutual contentment, I have officially been employed by ABT since November 2016.
