KunstlinieAlmereOn the boundary of the water and the new heart of Almere, art centre ‘De Kunstlinie’ has been realised to a design by the Japanese architectural firm SANAA.
The new theatre and the Centre for Artistic Development have been designed in a Japanese tradition without spatial hierarchy, with simple orthogonal volumes, much glass and extremely slender floor, wall and roof structures. Three block-shaped volumes, in which there are three halls, project above the 100 by 100 m basement. In the tallest volume, which is 25 m high, are situated the large hall, with 1050 seats, the theatrical tower and the foyers. ABT translated the rice-paper design into extremely slender and deceptively simple-looking structures, in which all thermal, acoustic and structural requirements are united. scope:19,000 m2client:Municipality Almerearchitect:SANAA/Kazyuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa & Associatesconsulting services:Structural consultancy, architectural plan elaboration and building cost management |
