Digging Delft

The Dutch city of Delft is undergoing a dramatic transformation: a 1960s-era rail viaduct that physically divides the municipality is being replaces by 2.3 km long underground tunnels dug right through the heart of the historic downtown area. The multiyear project also involves the construction of a new city hall above a new underground rail station and requires the protection and temporary relocation of structures dating back to the Middle Ages.
