Elastik & MAT Studio win the OpenFort400 competition

Thanks to their joint submission to the Ymere NAi ideas competition 2009, the bureaus Elastik and Mat Studio are being awarded the commission to further elaborate their idea for the Kop of the Grasweg in Amsterdam North, near the River IJ. With their Open Frame plan, the bureaus won one of the two jury prizes. ABT was involved in the structural design.

An important part of this is the load-bearing façade, where the column structure was defined with the help of the Evolutionary Structural Optimization algorithm.

The other jury prize went to Stereo Architects, Finbarr McComb and Pieter Sprangers, who submitted the plan New York 5. The winning designs were presented, together with the 98 other submissions, during the Open Fort 400 exhibition, which could be seen from 18 December 2009 until 27 February 2010 in the Zuiderkerk Information Centre in Amsterdam.
