TU Delft Data Centre wins the Betonprijs 2009

The winners of the Betonprijs (Concrete Prize) 2009 were announced on 18 November 2009 in the Main Reception Room of Rotterdam City Hall. The project TU Delft Data Centre was selected as the winner from the 34 submissions in the commercial buildings category. Besides this, the Smarties Studentenhuisvesting Uithof project in Utrecht was nominated in the residential buildings category. Alas, this project did not win the Concrete Prize in its category.

According to jury chairman Peter Keur, the quality of the projects submitted was exceptionally high. The jury’s view was that the Netherlands engineers are very innovative in the area of technology, materials application and implementation logistics. The jury considered the TU Delft Data Centre project to be special due to the very striking design, which can only be achieved using prefab concrete technology. In addition, the jury valued the fact that, for this purely utilitarian building, so much effort, inventiveness and innovation had gone into making the design and appearance so attractive.

The TU Delft Data Centre was designed by Joke Vos Architects, and ABT took care of the geotechnical and structural consultancy. For the fair-faced concrete work, ABT provided the quality control during the implementation.
